UUID v4 generator
Runs on your deviceWhat a version 4 UUID contains
A UUID is a 128-bit identifier shown as hexadecimal digits in groups separated by hyphens. A version 4 UUID reserves some bits for its version and variant and fills the remaining bits with random data. This generator uses the browser’s cryptographic random source and sets those bits explicitly. It does not use the current time, your device name, or a network address as the identifier.
Random does not mean centrally registered
The output is created independently in this page. It is not checked against every identifier that has ever existed, and no central registry is contacted. UUIDs are designed to make accidental collisions very unlikely when generated correctly, but a database should still enforce its own uniqueness rules. Decide how your application will handle a duplicate rather than treating a random identifier as an infallible guarantee.
An identifier is not authorization
Knowing a record’s UUID must not automatically grant access to it. Applications need proper permission checks regardless of how hard an identifier seems to guess. A UUID is also not a password, API secret, or proof of ownership. Use these outputs for identifiers and follow the receiving system’s expected format and version. The tool displays standard lowercase UUID strings and produces no saved history.
Worked examples
| Property | Example rule | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Version digit | The third group starts with 4 | Random version 4 UUID |
| Variant digit | The fourth group starts with 8, 9, a, or b | Standard UUID variant |
Good questions.
Are these UUIDs saved?
No. The page creates and displays them without sending them to a registry or saving a history.
Can I use them as passwords?
Use the password generator for passwords. An identifier should not replace authorization or secret management.
Can I generate a large batch?
This page limits a batch to 100 identifiers. Generate another batch if you need more sample IDs.
