Pace & speed calculator
Review the average pace of a walk, run, or ride. Enter distance and elapsed time to see minutes per kilometre or mile and the corresponding speed.
Pace & speed calculator
Runs on your devicePace is time per unit of distance
A 5 kilometre outing that takes 30 minutes has an average pace of 6 minutes per kilometre. Speed expresses the same relationship in the other direction: distance per hour. Here that is 10 kilometres per hour. A smaller pace value means the same distance is covered in less time; a larger speed value means more distance is covered in the same time.
Use the time you intend to measure
Elapsed time includes pauses. Moving time excludes some or all pauses according to a tracker’s rules. Entering the two different durations can produce different averages for the same route. This calculator does not decide which is more appropriate or reconstruct missing movement data. Use a consistent convention when comparing activities.
An average does not describe every part of a route
Hills, stops, surfaces, weather, and measurement errors can all be hidden inside a single pace. The result is arithmetic from your distance and time, not a training prescription, health assessment, or prediction of what you should attempt next. Kilometres and miles are related using 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres. Displayed pace is rounded to the nearest second per unit of distance.
Worked examples
| Distance | Elapsed time | Pace / speed |
|---|---|---|
| 5 km | 00:30:00 | 6:00 per km / 10 km/h |
| 1 mile | 00:10:00 | 10:00 per mile / 6 mph |
Good questions.
Can I enter minutes and seconds only?
Use HH:MM:SS. For 25 minutes and 30 seconds, enter 00:25:30.
Is this elapsed time or moving time?
It uses whichever duration you enter. Choose and label your convention consistently.
Does it predict a race result?
No. It reports the average relationship between the entered distance and time.
