HEX and RGB describe red, green, and blue channel values. A six-digit HEX color uses two hexadecimal digits for each channel; short HEX doubles each digit. HSL describes hue, saturation, and lightness. Different descriptions can refer to the same sRGB color. This tool accepts solid colors with no alpha channel and conventional comma-separated rgb() and hsl() notation.
HSL is a useful editing language
Hue moves around a color wheel. Saturation describes how vivid the color is, and lightness runs from black to white. HSL can make small manual adjustments easier to reason about, but equal HSL changes do not guarantee equal perceived changes. The conversion rounds RGB channels to whole numbers and shows HSL to one decimal place, so repeated conversions can introduce small rounding differences.
A matching code is not a print proof
Screens, color profiles, lighting, and output media affect appearance. This tool works with simple sRGB CSS values, not CMYK, spot colors, wide-gamut profiles, or a managed print workflow. It also does not tell you whether text will be readable against the color. Use the contrast checker for a solid foreground and background pair, then review the actual design.

Good questions.
Does it support transparent colors?
No. Use a solid three- or six-digit HEX color, RGB, or HSL without alpha.
Can I paste a CSS color name?
Use a numeric color value. Names such as rebeccapurple are not parsed by this tool.
Why can the HSL hue be zero for grey?
A grey has no hue distinction because its saturation is zero. A displayed hue of zero does not make it red.
